The cocktail hour ends, your guests (having had a few drinks) make their way into the reception room…and eagerly wait for the VIPs of your wedding to be announced. Your wedding party is pumped and probably trying to think of a last minute plan on what to do when their names are announced. Should they “fist pump”? Try the leap frog? Do a funny skit? Or just walk in with a big smile? All of those are great ideas, but why not work with your Event Planner or Entertainment Company to spice it up and help your friends make an impression? This is the moment that starts the night and really sets the tone so have some fun with it!
Here are a few fun ideas for you and your wedding party:
#1 Theme songs
Give your Entertainment company a list of theme songs for each couple being introduced. These songs should have some significance to each pair and should be a surprise to those being introduced.Tell your Emcee so he can have some fun with it when making the introductions and keep your guests excited for each one. If you choose to go this route, double check that your DJ has the right versions of each song and knows at what point to start each song. Definitely let your maitre’d know also, since it might take some extra time and will help keep them on the same page with your DJ and Emcee.
#2 Smoke Machines/ Air or Confetti Blasters
We love special effects for grand introductions! It always gets a good crowd reaction and adds the perfect “wow” factor that excites your guests for the celebration ahead. Just be sure to double check with your venue that the smoke machines will not set off the fire alarm and that confetti will not get stuck in the air vents. If this is the case, then air blasters or sparklers are a great alternative.
#3 A Choreographed Dance
Talk about team effort! We love when our couples and/or wedding parties prepare a special dance which is typically done right after they are introduced. Some of our favorites we’ve seen lately are “Time of my Life” from Dirty Dancing (not an easy feat in a wedding dress, but possible!), Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” where several guests were actually involved as well, and a high energy custom dance mix from one of our couples who is one of NJ’s top dance instructors. This definitely requires a few rehearsals before the wedding day, but it’s a great bonding experience and will be so worth the amusement!
Those are just some of our favorite ideas for grand intros, please share some of the great ideas you may have seen! We would love to hear from you, and as always, visit our site at www.VisionEventCo.com for more tips.
